Kanzcyon: Pronounced "Kanz-see-on", the name is a blend of the words Kansas
and Halcyon. Laurie Roush and Larry Hucke are an acoustic music duo. Born
and raised in Kansas, they developed their skills as singer/songwriters by
different paths until 2001 when they began their journey together.
Both share a common love for the state of Kansas and see in it a strange balance between the forces of nature impacting life with difficulties & challenges as experienced so deeply by its early settlers and still felt today, and the topographical beauty displaying elements of tranquility and joy, as expressed in the definition of the word Halcyon. Embracing Kansas as their home, they have found it to be a tremendous inspiration for their musical creativity. With their broad range of musical styles, Kanzcyon exhibits their respect for the diverse cultures and musical influences of past and present generations. Halcyon: 1) a mythical bird, usually identified with the kingfisher, said to have the power of calming winds and waves at sea. 2) calm; peaceful; tranquil. 3) joyful; carefree: halcyon days of youth. Kansas: A territory located in the geographical center of the United States of America, having entered the Union as the 34th state in the year 1861 AD. State Motto: "To the stars through difficulty". State Flower: Sunflower. State Bird: Meadowlark. State Tree: Cottonwood. The name Kansas is derived from the Native-American tribe known as the Kanza, or Kansas Indians. Topographical features of the state include the ever-changing colors reflected on the earthen sea of the great Flint Hills, the seemingly endless plateau of the great western plains and the clear horizon making visible the sun from its rising to its setting. Pioneered in the 1800's by innovative people with strong determination in the face of a harsh environment, Kansas is now known for its abundant wheat crops, aircraft industry, and numerous successful world-renown businesses including The Coleman Company, Pizza Hut Corporation and Koch Industries.
